6th Annual Walk for Sickle Cell Austin
Ayanna Edmondson Director of Youth Programming for the Sickle Cell Association of Texas joined the program to speak about the education, research awareness and how the Sickle Cell Association of Texas is committed to outreach with support group meetings, assistance, and numerous services.
Michael Loiacono has sickle cell disease, a condition diagnosed at birth. It causes normally disc-shaped red blood cells to instead be sickle-shaped -- causing a host of health issues. (CBS Austin)

HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Did you know Texas has the largest sickle cell population of any state?
In addition to today being Juneteenth, it's also World Sickle Cell Day. While the inherited blood disorder continues to cause strokes in some carriers and unbearable pain, one organization is rallying to bring a positive light to the disease on this special day.
